DIY Custom laser engraved hanger with 10w diode laser
by: M2X1.measuretwicecutonce (find me on instagram and Etsy)
For this project, I started with an IKEA Bumerang hanger in white. At this time, they are 8.99 for a pack of 8, which is a perfect starting project for beginners. Here is a link to the Ikea hangers on Amazon, where they are marked up significantly. Maybe try these instead, although I can't guarantee they are laser safe or will have the same results.
I created the file using the following steps:
- In Canva, type name and choose font
- Load design into Inkscape and trace bitmap to create SVG file
- Load SVG into Lightburn
I'm sure there is an easier process for this. Being new to lasering, this is what I am doing at the moment.
Once my design was loaded into LB, I measured the engravable area on the hanger which is approximately 1" tall by 2" wide (25mm by 50mm). I sized the design to fit. Looking back, I wish I had increased the size of my engraving!
I placed my hanger on the work surface, adjusted my focus with the drop down tool on my Elegoo Phecda and made sure to frame project before starting.
My settings for this project were 6000mm/min on my 10w diode*. I recommend using your own settings based on manufacturer information and your own speed/power tests.
I think this would make a great gift. Ideally custom engraved with a bride's name for a shower gift, but could also be good for a baby shower, etc.
